About SKINtm
The article below tells the story of how my passion became my
product!
Green Beauty
Overland Park, KS – April
23, 2008 – Ellen Holder and Stephanie Simkins found more in common
with each other than their two daughters. After arranging a few play
dates, the two discovered they both had a passion for green living.
Simkins is a lifelong nature lover and has always valued a natural
and organic way of life. An organic caterer turned holistic
nutritionist; Simkins enjoys educating others on the health benefits
of whole foods. Holder had more recently become aware of the
toxins lurking in her household and personal care products and
through an effort to find the best brands free from harmful
synthetic chemicals, ended up launching an online store for natural
and organic skin care, www.CarenOnline.com. Simkins
researched all the ingredients for her skin products in the same way
she would in her organic recipes, mixing up hand creams and body
lotions in her kitchen, while studying to be a master herbalist.
Then Holder sampled them—and she loved them! The two of them struck
a deal for Simkins to make her line and sell them in Holder’s online
store. “Steph’s products are unique in that they are
completely pure and natural, using organic ingredients, yet smell,
feel and look like bath and body store type products. Even someone
not into organics would love them!” says Holder. “I’m picky about
textures and having the best quality ingredients, as well as the
scents of the products. I use all citrus oils and fruit
extracts.” Said Simkins.
All of the products are made with organic and natural
ingredients by Simkins herself. The skin care line,
appropriately called “Skin”, has received rave reviews from
customers both locally and nationally. The line has already piqued
the interest of beauty editors from national magazines.
“We are thrilled with the opportunity to promote this new line,”
states Holder. Holder’s online store, CarenOnline, features
natural and organic products from smaller, lesser known
manufacturers that meet Holder’s strict requirements. “Many of the
personal care products on the shelves of health food stores are
misleading and still contain synthetic chemicals,” insists Holder,
“We look for product lines that truly believe beauty can be obtained
without the need for chemical additives.” The store’s
reputation for purity is catching on, as sales have been doubling
every two months since the launch last August.
